A hackathon is a weekend-long event where college students interested in computer science come together and spend 24-36 hours creating something entirely new through code.
During the fall semester of my second year at UC, I attended my first hackathon, RevolutionUC, and I was instantly taken aback by the collaborative atmosphere. While there is a competitive aspect to hackathons, the main purpose of them is to learn something new and apply it to whatever project you and your team come up with. After that first hackathon, I knew I had to find more to attend. I went to the next RevolutionUC the following spring, and during the fall of 2015 I also attended Kent Hack Enough and OHI/O.
To the right are some images from the project I worked on at my most recent hackathon, HackYSU, which was held February 5-7th 2016 at Youngstown State University. The project was a version of the game Chopsticks designed to work between two Pebble watches.

Bearcat Buddies is a volunteer organization associated with UC that takes a groups of UC students to various Cincinnati Public Schools every week. During each one-hour session, each student from UC is assigned a "buddy" whom they tutor in subjects such as reading, writing, and math. I've worked with students from Ethel M. Taylor Academy and Taft IT High School.

The Humane Society of Delaware County is a no-kill, non-profit animal shelter that houses dogs, kittens, and adult cats. As a volunteer here, I was responsible for walking and playing with the dogs, as well as "socializing" with the cats, making them more accustomed to being around humans. I also provided input to any potential animal adopters.
